Taking care of your body on a daily basis is essential for your overall health. There are many holistic health practices you can add to your daily routine to really find your optimal wellness.

Your self care rituals are sacred moments in which you are connecting with yourself on a deeper level. It teaches you to be more in-tuned with your body and listen to its subtle signals. It's appreciating your body beyond its physical manifestation.

Morning is a special time in Ayurveda (rising 6-8 am). The whole body is silent while the world is awakening. You should wake up feeling clear, worries free and with a quite mind. This is your opportunity to set the tone for the rest of your day.

  1. Oil pulling- swishing the oil around in your mouth ‘pulls’ out bacteria, toxins or ‘ama’ – accumulated toxins from diet, lifestyle and the environment. Gently swish 1 - 2 tablespoons of coconut oil in your mouth and between your teeth for 10-20 minutes making sure that you don't swallow any of the oil. Spit it out to the trash, not to the sink (it might clog up the plumbing).

  2. Tongue Scraping- According to Ayurveda, toxins or ama accumulate in the mouth and tongue as we sleep. By scraping these toxins off the tongue in the morning, we avoid them being reabsorbed when we eat, drink or swallow. Good for overall oral hygiene, clears toxins & bacteria from the tongue and balances taste buds.

  3. Dry brushing- stimulates your lymphatic system, helps our body to get rid of toxins, removes dead skin cells and improves circulation. Begin brushing starting at your feet and moving in long motions towards your heart (always brush towards your heart).

  4. Abhyanga/self massage- nurtures, calms and relaxes your body & mind. Alleviates pain and muscle soreness, improves digestion, releases toxins and improves circulation. After dry brushing hop into the shower and after apply coconut oil.

  5. Warm Lemon Water- morning elimination is valuable before starting a new day, as your body is emptying the system of wastes from the previous day. Warm lemon water aids this process of elimination. Squeeze 1/2 a lemon into a cup with lukewarm water.
