“Each morning we are born again. What we do today is what matters the most”
How you start your morning sets the tone for the rest of your day.
Think about those days you didn’t wake up to your alarm, you rushed leaving home and skipped breakfast, how does a day like that look like?
Starting your morning tuning in and taking deep care of yourself is like an insurance policy for your day.
The busier your day is the more important it is to take the time in the morning to feed your body, mind and soul first. When you start your day with filling up your cup first, you make sure you're in alignment with your values, goals and intentions. The world will always pull and drag you in all directions – things you have to do, people you have to call, things you have to worry about... This is how people become stressed, anxious and depleted. Alignment keeps you grounded, focused, and intentional so you are more likely to make better decisions and stay calm with whatever your day brings up.
Here are my 7 morning pillars:
Don’t hit the snooze button. This is the first decision you make every single day. Make sure you start your day with a powerful state of mind – taking responsibility for your health and wellbeing. Those extra minutes in bed will never be equal to quality time with yourself.
Make your bed. Making your bed is a quick and easy way to make your living space look neater. When your bedroom is a more peaceful environment you’ll be more peaceful. uter order contributes to inner calm.
Self care for the mind. Meditate for 10-20 minutes (if you’re new to meditation, try using meditation apps such as Head Space and Calm)
Self care for the body. Move your body. Even if you prefer exercising in the afternoon try getting your body moving – go for a 10 min walk with your dog, do some sun salutations, tai chi, or do some stretches. Stretching in the morning improves blood circulation to the muscles, which means you’ll have more energy! Blood flows also to the brain so you start your day with more focus and concentration. And very important – movement in the mornings helps you kick start digestion.
Self care for the heart. Journal. Morning pages to clear the mind and spark inspiration or/and the 5 minutes journal to start your day intentional and with gratitude.
Rituals. Read more about my 5 Ayurveda self care rituals to start your day with here.
Make yourself a nourishing energizing breakfast that you love. I personally love smoothies because I can add in veggies, greens and super-foods. Make sure you add healthy fats and protein to energize and satisfy you until lunch. Here are some of my favorite recipes.
You don’t have to do them all, choose one thing to start with for the next month and see what it does for you, approach it with curiosity. There are many possibilities for morning habits. You can use affirmations, mantras, essential oils, card decks, walk in the park, read a chapter from your most inspiring book and so much more! The most important thing is that you design a routine that works for you, that brings you joy and sets you up for the rest of the day powerfully, peacefully and keeps you inspired.
